CHEGG FAQs –  Everything you need to know

  1. What subjects can I teach on Chegg?
  1. What are the steps after uploading documents?

They will verify your documents and mail you within 4-6 days approximately. The mail includes your login credentials and you can start answering on Chegg.

  1. How long does it take to start answering?

In an ideal case, within a week of document submission your login details should arrive on the mail from their team. Documents are asked once both your subject test and guidelines test are clear.

  1. How much do they pay per question?

Chegg has a variety of subjects to choose from. The prices differ on the basis of technicality and effort needed for answers. The price bracket ranges between Rs.75 to Rs.197.

  1. Can I answer using a smartphone?

Yes you can (my cousin does).

  1. Can I create another account if my account is revoked?

Yes, but people try someone else’s details in such scenario. They use any of their family member’s details and keep the bank account also different. They act smart.

  1. Can TDS that was deducted by them be claimed as a refund?

Yes, when you file your ITR, claim allowed deductions, that should make you eligible for a refund (provided your TDS amount was more than your overall tax liability).

  1. How much can I earn in a month?

It is completely up to the time you devote to answering on Chegg. People easily earn more than 20-25 thousands every month. Your earnings can vary between Rs. 3000 to Rs. 100000 depending on the time and effort you have given it.

  1. What documents do they ask for?

Identity proof (Aadhaar)

Pan Card

Pass certificate for highest qualification

Marksheet of graduation

You can submit class 10 marksheet too, to be on safe side

You will be required to sign and scan your documents’ copies for the offer letter.

  1. How can I change my subject on Chegg?

By taking the subject test again in the newly chosen subject.

  1. Is there a humanities stream too on the subjects list?

Yes, for example, Earth Science is humanities stream.

  1. How many tests will I have to appear for before enrolment as an expert?

You will have to appear for two tests; a subject test which will test your knowledge about the subject and the guidelines test, for which they send you a file of rules and regulations to study.

Guidelines test happens after the subject test is cleared.

  1. I do not have a PAN, what can I do?

You need PAN for tax purposes. They deduct your TDS when they pay you. If you do not have PAN, use any of your family member’s details to sign up. Accordingly, you will have to use his documents too for enrolment as an expert.

Graduation in the field of the subject you are applying for as an expert.

  1. Is there a referral code to join?

No, not yet.

  1. What is the level of questions on Chegg experts?

Level is often high but you have an option to skip question. When I was working there, I used to try to answer even the ones which were above my level.

Sometimes, you may even get simple questions. Mostly, some research is needed to answer a question.

  1. Is there any other website like Chegg?

Chegg is most authentic one to my knowledge. I do know about a few more but I have not worked on them.

OneClass

Tutor.com

HashLearn

School Solver

Growing Stars

  1. Objective or subjective tests for becoming an expert?

Both tests (subject and guidelines test) are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)

  1. What is the best time to answer questions?

Highest inflow of questions happens in the late night hours, after 11 pm to 8 am in the morning.

  1. What type of questions do I have to answer?

There is a whole variety. I remember getting a question on photography when I was enrolled as an Accountancy expert. Actually, students choose the subject while posting questions on Chegg and sometimes they choose the wrong field. That’s when you sometimes see very awkward questions on your answering page, you can skip them. Mostly, the questions will be related to your chosen subject but the level may be high, it will require some research on the web before answering.

  1. How will they pay me?

They do a bank transfer to your Indian bank account. After your documents are verified, they ask for your bank details and take you on board.

  1. How to join as a student?

When you go to the website, select ‘Student’ instead of ‘Subject Expert’.

  1. I wasn’t good as a student but can I teach on Chegg?

Yes, why not. Your marks don’t matter, only you clearing the subject and guidelines tests matter.

  1. Can I add another subject?

You will have to appear for a test in that subject too.

  1. Does it work outside India? Pakistan?

I don’t think so. Many people on my  YouTube channel comments told they tried from outside India. Also, without PAN, you anyway won’t be able to register.

  1. I’m not getting the OTP.

This is a strange new problem. I received many such comments where people mentioned this issue. Ideally, it shouldn’t happen. If it does, please try another phone number or write them an email.

There may also be a reason of ‘no vacancy’ because of which they close the positions for a while and do not send OTP (this is the best guess).

  1. Is this legal?

Absolutely.

  1. Question level is too high.

Yes, sometimes. You can skip those questions, but only after giving some effort to it. If you skip many questions, the pool of questions may finish for the time being, and you may end up not answering any question which means you will not earn that day.

  1. Can a government employee work?

Avoid it, I do not think our government allows that. Use some family member’s help to register.

  1. If I change any answer will my downvote change?

This is not a good practise. Such practices may lead to account revocation.

But, practically speaking, people do change answers. Changing answer is allowed and after which you can also mention in the answer in (brackets) requesting student to remove the downvote if they are satisfied with the answer then. Not written in rules but a tip that definitely works!!

  1. Rejection of address proof.

Change the proof. Aadhar should work. No point arguing with them, quickly resolve issue at your end and start earning.

  1. Verification of documents not getting through.

This is rare, but sometimes the reason may be some American holiday in between or due to high inflow of applications. Many people are working on the platform, their verification obviously got through. Mine too was also completed in a couple of weeks.

My simple advice, mail them and ask, they are very proactive in answering to genuine queries.

  1. Will it be safe to give our personal documents?

Yes, everyone gives them and what would they anyway do with those documents. Relax, you anyway submit docs wherever you apply for a job. We cannot worry about these things always, sometimes we are bound to keep trust in the organisation. I submitted mine too.

  1. Would we have to visit their office?

No, never.

  1. Is it only for Indians?

As far as I know from my experience, Chegg experts are all Indians. If you apply from any other country, you will get stuck at the point they ask for your PAN (since that is an Indian document)

  1. How should I prepare for the test?

Don’t prepare, all you need is a good internet connection and the art of looking for answers online. Do smart work. It is an open book test, they allow internet usage for research during the test, but time is limited so you need to hurry.

  1. Difficulty in filling experience on form.

Generally, I don’t see that being a problem. Fill in honest answers. Experience shouldn’t be a problem. Many people I know started their career with working on Chegg (from home).

  1. Is there a limit to skip questions?

This is important, read carefully. They ask you to attempt the questions as much as you can. But, sometimes the level of the question is really high for our expertise, then we are free to skip. When you skip, you will have to select the reason why you are skipping a question. There’s no limit to how many you skip but there are only limited number of questions in the pool at a moment of time, if you skip all, you may end up answering nothing, thereby, earning nothing for that day.

  1. Is there a limit to answering questions?

No. But it is limited to the number of questions in the pool at that moment. For example, if there are 40 questions in the pool for Accountancy, they get divided among all the experts for Accountancy. Once all are answered, you will have to wait for the question to arrive in the bank.

So, in a way it also depends on your speed of answering.

  1. Can I teach English on Chegg?

No. English is not an available subject. They are American children, they don’t need to learn English from Indians 😁

  1. How many questions are there in a subject test?

10 (but they may change this number as per their convenience)

  1. My KYC is not getting approved.

Wait for a while. Afterwards, mail them at https://support.cheggindia.com/portal/newticket

  1. Minimum age to work.

They ask for graduates to apply. There’s no maximum.

  1. Can I use someone else’s details?

People do this (though it is dishonest but some people do)

  1. Can I change my subject?

By re-appearing for the subject test of the new subject of your choice. In case your two subjects are from the similar domain, like Advance Math & Calculus, I’d advise you mail them and ask if they can allow you to switch subjects. I was once offered this choice when I wanted to change my subject, but rules keep changing over time.

  1. Can I re-apply if rejected before?

They give you 2 chances to clear the subject test. All the best!

  1. Are TBS Chegg and Chegg Experts the same?

No, TBS is Text Book Solutions, there one has to write solutions to questions Chegg sends on a Word file. These questions are from American text books. They generally send you a compilation of 15-20 questions in a file.

On the other hand, Chegg Experts is all about answering one question at a time when you are online. You have to submit answer to each question before moving on to next. There’s a time limit of 2 hours for each question, within which you need to submit the answer.

  1. Are my bank details safe with them?

Yes, they used to transfer money to my savings bank account and thankfully I never faced a problem.

  1. Can I choose two subjects?

Initially, you will have to register for 1 subject and after around a month, you can contact your coordinator to add one more subject. But, you will have to appear for a fresh subject test for the new subject you want.

  1. What is TBS Expert?

Text Book Solutions. Here, one has to write solutions to questions Chegg sends on a Word file. These questions are from American text books. They generally send you a compilation of 15-20 questions in a file.

You have to digitally type the answers to those questions and send the Word file to them.

They pay you per question you answered. You are paid by the 15th of every month.

  1. How do they maintain quality?

They have a quality control team that audits the answers, evaluates and gives you a score. You are expected to maintain a quality score of minimum 80%, else they may revoke your account but that generally happens after a few warnings from them.

  1. I’m in 12th, can I teach?

No. But, I heard from someone that he used someone else’s details to register and answer.
